Inside the Report, there’s a very interesting list of data that captures the comatose state of our football:

•Average age in Serie A: 28 years (8th oldest league in Europe)
•Percentage of foreigners on the pitch: 67.9% of total minutes (6th worst figure in Europe). In Spain the figure is 39.6%, in France 48.3%
•Number of players selectable for the National Team: just 89 Italians out of the 284 who play at least 30 minutes on average per match
•Last in Europe for revenues generated from international transfers of players trained in their own country over the last decade
•49th Championship in the world (out of 50 considered) for % of minutes played by U21 players selectable for the National Team (1.9%!)

FIELD DATA:

•Serie A is out of the Top 10 leagues for Meters Covered in Sprints
•The average ball speed in Serie A is 7.6 m/s. Much lower than in the Champions League (10.4 m/s) and in the other top European leagues (9.2 m/s)
•Serie A is last for Dribbles per match among the top 5 European championships (26.69 vs. 29.97)
•Since 19/20, the number of successful Dribbles in Serie A has been declining: from 19.02 to 12.36
•Serie A is last, among the top 5 European championships, for PPDA, i.e. “aggressiveness factor during pressing/pressure phases, allowing a greater number of passes to the opposing team in possession of the ball”
•Despite the good results of the Under teams in youth competitions, the comparison between their employment in first teams in Italy and the rest of Europe is merciless: among the Spaniards who played in the 2023 Under 19 European Championship (won by Italy), the minutes in the first division are DOUBLE compared to the Italians, and SIX TIMES greater in European cup matches. Moreover, among the Italians who came second at the 2023 U20 World Cup, almost all played in youth teams, unlike their French and English peers.
